Kia kaha

I saw the movie 'Forever Strong' for about the 5th or 6th time while on a layover in Brazil. It has taken the number one spot on my list of favorite movies. There are some wonderful take-aways in the movie. One of the big ones for me was the way Coach Gelwix related to Rick, the main character in the film. Coach Gelwix to Rick: I'm not concerned about the past, what happened yesterday or even today, I'm concerned with what you can become. Don't waste your years ...like I did (with his father). Forgive your father; when you free him you free yourself.

The 'Pygmalion effect' is a true principle. If what one continuously holds up as a reflection of another is a picture of their weaknesses and failures it has a profoundly negative effect on that person. Yes, that person is ultimately responsible for their actions. Just as the Lord will hold church leaders, teachers, and parents accountable for failure to properly lead or worse, for misleading those youth entrusted in their charge, do you think he will hold each of us less accountable if we, with our influence on those close to us, by our actions and manner of relating to that person, reflect back to them an image, not reflecting their ultimate good and potential, but one focused on their weaknesses and failings? To say we have no responsibility for our influence on another when we are involved in their lives is to deny a simple truth. Like Rick's father, and like coach Gelwix, we do have an effect on those we are close to, one way, or the other.
Regardless of how we have been treated, our own happiness and well being will increase as we reflect the great potential in others back to them, inviting and challenging them to become their best selves.

More gun control?

My prayers go out to the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.  I also have concerns for the future of our country.  A tragedy like the one played out Friday morning in Newtown, Connecticut brings out all kinds of responses.  Like the shooting in the movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, cries for gun control appear in nearly every media report on the story.
So here we have another slaughter in a “Gun Free Zone” and the usual suspects coming out of the woodwork to use the tragedy for their own personal agenda. The problem with their logic is that it is neither logical nor rational. Gun control is about control, not guns. If we lived in a Utopian world where no one went hungry and guns didn’t exist anywhere it would be great. But we don’t. We live in a world where angry, deranged people commit evil acts using whatever is at their disposal. In a place where guns are not legal, someone with no respect for the law can walk in and commit horrible carnage because there is NO ONE THERE WHO CAN STOP them. Kudos to Mr. Dupree for objective reporting on this tragedy. Most of the main stream media will not focus on the fact that the worst of these mass shootings occur where only the criminal is the only one with a gun. People don’t NEED guns to hunt or for recreation; they NEED them to protect themselves from the kind of vermin that perpetrate crimes like this one. And yes, they need semi-automatic guns to prevent tyranny from government from getting out of control. For those foolish enough to think that can’t happen, remember Waco, and do a little research on the situation in Mexico, where only police and military are allowed to legally possess and use guns.
The debate will surely continue.  The truth is, all the debate, dogma, or enacted law in the world won't stop a crazed maniac from wreaking havoc.  A gun, and someone who can use it, right there, in real time, when the crazed maniac begins his attack would.

America dumbed down and doesn't care.

I recently responded to a Facebook post in reply to my posting of a link to a video of Obama stating he was born in Kenya.  Her point was basically all of this doesn't matter and we just need to move on.

Here it is.
If Bush had done a shred of the stuff Obama has lied about, the media would have excoriated him, along with most liberals. The 'birther' thing is only one of many problems with his presidency. Did you know the Hawaiian Secretary of State refused to certify Obama's eligibility for the DNC nomination in 2007? As President of the DNC, Nancy Pelosi was the only other person who could certify him. And she did. Never happened with anyone else before. It is proven already that the birth certificate posted by the White House was a forgery. I downloaded it and deconstucted it myself, as did the experts. That birth thing is not even the primary issue. What is the primary issue is that Obama is taking this country down the road to ruin. If we continue down the same course, the economy will collapse, and there will be rioting in the inner cities when the two or three days worth of food is gone from the shelves of the stores. It will make Greece look like a dust up at a baseball game. And along the way, he lying to us left and right and the media along with his minions are covering for him. A conservative president would be in impeachment hearings right now for the same behaviors Obama is given a pass on. No one has to agree with me. But there are many who do. I will be glad to present facts for those who are interested. If you don't like what I have to say, fine, it's a difference of opinion and belief. But if you want to disagree with me, present the facts and we can have an adult discussion about it. Please be prepared first. Look up Clower and Piven, Bill Ayers, Rules for Radicals, Weather Underground. Familiarize yourself with the Muslim Brotherhood. I will be glad to send you a file filled with facts that would scare anyone interested in really knowing what is going on. I don't think anyone can deny the coincidence of the election results and the sudden escalation of attacks by Hamas on Israel. When this whole Benghazi business is unraveled, even the lapdog media won't be able to hide the truth, thanks to the resources of Social Media. Of course, if Obama and the UN have their way, they will be able to control freedom of speech there. Wanna see the proposals? I'll be glad to pass the links along...if you really want to know the facts. Just sayin'...

Obama's 'Grassy Knoll'

Is it possible that the main-stream media's complicity in Benghazigate is only exceeded by it's attempts to dupe the American people that John F. Kennedy was shot by 3 shots in 6 seconds from a horribly inaccurate bolt action rifle, unable to cycle a round faster than 2.3 seconds under the best circumstances, 3 shots by Lee Harvey Oswald, a below average shot ar best, 3 shots with such incredible accuracy at a moving vehicle that today's best snipers would have difficulty making 2 out of 3 of those shots with far more accurate rifles, and this same media refuses to inform the American people what this president was up to and how he tried to cover up actions he sanctioned that would not only result in his not being re-elected, but could well result in criminal charges being brought against him and key players in his administration. The truth will emerge in spite of those who would hide their despicable acts in hopes that by the time we the people figure out what's happened it will be too late. Events have been set in motion in the Middle East that threaten the very existence freedom as we know it here in America. On Nov. 6 , 2012 we will find out if there is even a chance the precious freedoms brave Americans gave their lives for will survive beyond this generation. Pray to God it isn't too late already. Even now, frightening revelations are coming to light, as indicated in this article:
